sheesh!
Is it the middle of October already? Sorry the noozletter is late. As usual, and to the surprise of no one who knows me, I be a-drownin' in work. And, as our American readers know full well, living in the hyperactive and fully medicated state of California can be another huge distraction, like living in a 163,707 square mile psychoward. Our latest 15 minutes of fame: we now have a new governor (his name and title officially pronounced: Guv-uh-nuh Ah-nld) and, as a result, Keli-phone-ya has dropped off into the depths of the Pacific Ocean. But I got a free few moments this weekend, so here is some stuff from the front: |

boo!
When I was a kid I had just one request on Halloween: show me the candy. I would take an empty pillow case out and bring it back full, only to empty it again in the next few days, giving the healthier dregs to my sister or dog or trashcan. This partially explains the current lack of my own native teeth and my abnormal insulin production. But those were more innocent days. What are we to think of the Hallowed Evening now that our society is getting genuinely darker? (Mordor comes to mind.) Should we build higher the walls that already surround our Christian subculture because Halloween celebrates (as some Christians believe, I crud you not) the Devil's B-Day? Or should we send our kids out to collect their traditional share of sugar, fully enjoying their rite of passage into addictive processed food stuffs? Is there some non-compromising compromise??? Here we have two articles to peruse. One is by Greg Koukl of Stand To Reason, a very scary man indeed, who blesses us with Halloween for Christians?. Another is a link to the alternate neighborhood idea to the whole eve, an article in Christian Times called Christians Light Up the Neighborhood. Go here and make up your own mind and perhaps light a light as the shadows increase. |

kaboom!
In our ongoing attempt to diffuse the explosiveness of the big bang, this month we ask you to take a look at Rich Deem's The Universe is Not Eternal, But Had A Beginning. OK, that's not the singular most original name we've ever featured but it is highly descriptive. For those of you new to the whole BB issue, here is a synopsis: The creation of the universe - and its subsequent expansion of which we are now a part - is one of the most elegant proofs of the God of the Bible, an even better proof than put forward by the existence of chocolate. Amazingly, though, many Christians reject it as demon-inspired heresy, morally worse than human sacrifice on Halloween or, worse, a Democrat in office. Why? Somehow to them it implies evolution is true (uhh... no) and therefore Christianity and the Bible false (uhh... no again). We use it to prove the words of Genesis 1.1 (and sundry other Scriptures). The big bang is our big buddy when arguing for the existence of the Big God of the Big Book. |

Hippo!
In our ongoing attempt to get our brothers and sisters to appreciate the great church fathers who paved the way for us long ago, philosophically, theologically, and in their fashion statements, we ask you kindly to consider taking a look at an article by philosopher/theologian/WWII buff Ken Samples entitled Augustine of Hippo Part 1: From Pagan, to Cultist, to Skeptic, to Christian Sage. (This is not to be confused with Augustine the Hippo, the recently found manuscript by the late Dr. Seuss.) Read it in English here! |

from the tract rack!
In our ongoing attempt to make you all aware of our own materials, we're going to feature one of our tracts every month just to show you we really do write our own material. This month we're forcing you, err... begging you to read Dear Gods - An Open Letter to the Gods of Mormonism. It is in the form of a Dear John letter written by a former Mormon to his gods, telling them good-bye and why. |

last days and the unborn
In our ongoing attempt to make sure your prolife resources are up-to-date, and that you don't forget about the unborn kids in all the cloudiness of war and economics foreign policy, we want you all to be aware of the fine material offered up at Last Days Ministries. Yes, the old ministry of Keith Green still maintained by Melody and just as non-compromising. Go here! |

add-on input
In our ongoing attempt to get your feedback, we need your advice. In version two of our (un)orthodox shirt, we'd like to put on the back of the shirt an abridged version of What It All Means (offered in pdf format here). What do you think? Should we? Or should we not? |

the skies above
the latest astronomy article concerns where the center of the universe is. Curious? You should be! Go here. And if you'd like to see this column in your own local paper, please let me know, so I can write to them and grovel. |
| Thanks for your kind words of support and encouragement. We don't expect to please everyone with what we say and how we do it. So prayer and encouragement are always welcome. Thanks very much from the three of us! |
