Aus. Ge. Zeich. Net!
Is it just me or are some of the best movies with spiritual themes made in other countries, those outside the USA? First we get MOST from the Czech Republic, a modern-day parable about the profound love a Father has for people. Then we serendipitously find out about this gem from Germany.
Sophie School was a 21-year-old German woman in Munich during WWII. She and her brother objected to Hitler's regime, but here's where they differed from the average German - they did something about it. And their objections resulted in their arrest, interrogation, trial and execution. What is clear in the movie as is clear in the historical documents is that their deep faith and solid upbringing gave them the courage they needed to go through it all, and the peace they needed in their final hours. It's a great film for all Christians to see, to show us what it means to stand up for what we believe even in the face of unbridled evil and imminent death.
And go here for the official film website. Here is the trailer. Show it to your study group or youth then discuss what it means to make a stand!!! (And go here for the White Rose leaflets that got them in so much trouble.)

Oh. My. Gosh.
"get out the hankies!"
How something like this could slip by us is truly sad. Especially when one of us considers himself a film aficionado (that would be Mark). Here in a single half-hour film is the most amazing modern-day parable any Christian could ask for. No cheesy, substandard Americhristian standards to be found anywhere. Just one beautiful story which is nothing short of a parable of the love of the Father for His people. (Think John 3.16). MOST (The Bridge) is a Czech film, beautifully photograhed, brilliantly acted... magnificant on every level. What a great film to show to an unbelieving friend, or in a group setting for discussion. You will only not be moved if you have no heart beating in your chest.
And you can get the film from mostthemovie.com. (Watch the trailer here, as well.) They have a deal such that if you buy one they send you another for free. You will not be disappointed.
